Why is it everything a person says Illegals should learn english another person answers everyone should be?
bilingual. Spanish is a relatively easy language however been forced to learn it because people who are here illegally won’t learn english seems backwards and unfair.
bullcrap…………….they arent supposed to be here in the first place…….if they want to be here they can learn the language like everyone else…………….and if thats so unfair, well , LEAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why Don't They Learn English
$14.32 This compelling book examines the often cited but poorly supported claims that immigrants fail to learn English, and the mistaken belief that immigrant communities cling to their heritage languages. The author reveals that, on the contrary, English is being learned at a rapid pace while heritage languages are disappearing quickly from family use. She shows us how current assumptions have a pervasive influence on language policy in the United States.Ultimately, the author argues for an educational approach that effectively embraces immigrant communities. This unique volume offers a short, readable introduction to these issues suitable for nonspecialists as well as educators, researchers, and other professionals. |

Homonyms, Why English Suffers
$3.98 Those of us who grew up learning the English language had a great advantage over everyone else who attempts to learn English as a foreign language. We had context, the meaning within the syntax of sentences which helped us to understand what many English words mean, even though they sound the same as other words, but have different meanings and are usually spelled differently. They are the dreaded.…HOMONYMS. From the placement of words within a sentence, we came to naturally understand such sentences as, "Angus is too thrifty to spend two dollars." It is no wonder that homonyms present a major obstacle to the millions of people who confront the English language for the first time, having learned and used another language. Here is a book which concisely isolates the most common homonyms, explaining their different meanings and spellings, even though they are pronounced the same. While it should prove a useful tool for those acquiring English as a new language, I am also hoping it will be entertaining as well… Life is too short… This book intends to be a practical and thoughtful guide, but does not attempt encyclopedic scope or lofty academic scholarship. To one who masters English homonyms, the rest of the vocabulary is more easily acquired. NOTE: The words listed herein are described briefly. There may be more meanings (usages) than those listed. Also, there may be more words that could have been included (but that would have stopped you from using your thinking cap). For example; I have a brother-in-law whose name is "Lint" and I wouldn't want his name to be linked with pocket fluff. But overall I think you will get the point—just have fun with what follows. |

Why You Need a Foreign Language & How to Learn One
$19.98 In the age of globalization, English-speakers have largely neglected the languages of others, trusting instead in the promise of an international version of English. In Why You Need a Foreign Language & How to Learn One, author Edward Trimnell makes a contrarian case for a renewed emphasis on foreign language skills in the United States, Great Britain, and elsewhere in the English-speaking world. Drawing on topics as wide-ranging as military intelligence and international business, Trimnell explains why our neglect of foreign languages makes us dangerously dependent on the language skills of others. The book also explores the "truth and the hype" about English as an international language, and explains the functional limitations of English as a global means of communication. Finally, the book describes techniques and resources that businesspersons and other professionals can use to acquire a language through independent study. |
